OPEN STAR CLUSTER M48
Located in the constellation Hydra - The Snake, M48 consists of about 80 stars which are at a distance of
approximately 1500 light years away. The cluster is estimated to be around 300 million years old.
Taken on 11/12/10 from my home in Thaxton, VA using a Nikon FE2 film camera and a Nikon 180 mm ED
f2.8 lens operating at f4 piggybacked on a Stellarvue SV78S Blackhawk riding on a Losmandy GM-8. This is
a 40 minute manually guided exposure on Kodak Elite Chrome 200 pushed 1 stop. Processed in PixInsight SE.
